Tracy McGrady training with Kobe Bryant for possible NBA comeback

After working out with Kobe Bryant last month, Tracy McGrady is attempting a comeback to the NBA. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, McGrady trained with Kobe Bryant at a Southern California gym to test the preparedness of his body, and seeing if it could lead to an NBA return.

“Yes, I was working out with K.B. to get in shape and see how my body feels,” McGrady told Yahoo Sports in an email Tuesday night.

“The comeback will not happen, unless I have the drive whenever I get back,” McGrady told Yahoo in the email.

McGrady’s body status and overall health will likely be the deciding factor as if he is to return to the NBA or not. Wojnarowski also mentioned that at least two NBA teams were contacted to gauge their interest in McGrady, but none replied.

McGrady already has a deal for a basketball tour in China, so it would almost be impossible for him to be with an NBA team by the start of training camp.

He retired from the league in 2013 after a short run with the Spurs who fell short in the NBA Finals to the Heat.

McGrady has never won an NBA Championship, but he has won two regular season scoring titles, is a 7-time All-Star and has been named to an NBA first-or-second team five times in his 15-year career.

If he feels ready, McGrady could attempt one more run at an NBA ring, even if he signs with a team later the season.

McGrady played baseball this year, when he was a starting pitcher for the Sugarland Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League.
