Movement is an observation before it is an explanation
A hockey market moves when an observed line or price changes. The first task is to document what changed, where and when. Explaining why comes later.
Price movement and line movement are not identical
A moneyline can move from one price to another without changing the underlying selection. A puck line or total can retain its number while the attached price moves, or the number itself can change. OddsBay should preserve those distinctions.
Context can help, but timing is not causation
Starting-goalie confirmation, injuries, lineup changes, scheduling conditions and new market information can all be relevant context. SportsDataIO and supplemental ESPN data can help establish what was known around a game, while SportsGameOdds supplies sportsbook-market observations.
If an OddsBay move and a lineup development occur during the same period, that relationship is worth reporting. It is not enough, on its own, to say the lineup development caused the move.
Broad moves and isolated moves tell different stories
A change at one sportsbook is different from a similar change appearing across several books. OddsBay’s Line Archive and Steam Score™ can help characterize the movement using OddsBay’s own observations rather than a narrative invented after the fact.
